If the speaker is in pairing mode, the Bluetooth button will have a flashing white light. When the speaker connects to another device, the Bluetooth button will have a steady white light.

Near the power and Bluetooth button, you have the battery indicator and charging port. The battery indicator shows you how much battery is left in your JBL Flip 5 speaker. To battery indicator will turn off after a while, to activate it press one of the buttons (Volume Up or Down).

Next to the battery indicator is the charging port. The charging port is used to charge the speaker. Simply, use the charger the JBL Flip 5 came with, and plug it in the charging port. Then, plug the other end of the charge into a wall charger and charge your JBL Flip 5.

Volume Control Buttons (+,-)

You can find the volume control buttons at the center of the speaker, in row two. The volume control buttons are in the shape of Plus (+) and Minus (-).

You can use the Plus (+) button to increase the volume output, and the Minus (-) button to decrease the volume output from the speaker.

The buttons only work when the speaker is paired with another device and the music is playing. When the speaker is idle, the volume buttons won’t do anything.

The volume output depends on the device connected. The speaker may remember the volume output of each of the devices connected. So, when you connect another device you may need to adjust the volume.

Play/Pause Button

The play/pause button can be used to play and pause content. If the music is playing, press the play/pause button one time to pause the music. If the music isn’t playing (paused), press the play/pause button one time to resume the music.

The pause button won’t mute the music, instead, it will pause the music in your speaker and in the device that is connected (PC, Phone, TV). When you press the button again the music will resume where you left it, so you won’t miss anything.

If the speaker is connected with an iPhone, you can press and hold the button for a few seconds to activate Siri. However, Siri should be enabled on your phone beforehand.

PartyBoost Button

The PartyBoost button is located near the Volume down (-) button. The PartyBoost is a feature that allows the speaker to connect with multiple JBL Speakers and play music at the same time. The PartyBoost will connect only with other devices that have PartyBoost too.

After connecting the JBL Flip 5 with another device via Bluetooth, press the PartyBoost button one time to allow other speakers to pair with you.

Or, if there’s another device that’s already paired and activated the PartyBoost feature, press the PartyBoost button, wait a few seconds, and your speaker will pair with the other devices and play the same music.

Note: The JBL Flip 5 won’t pair with JBL Flip 4 or other older devices that have the “Connect” or “Connect Plus” button. The speaker will connect only with PartyBoost devices.

You can also activate the PartyBoost button using the JBL Portable application on your phone. Once the speaker is connected with your phone, go to the application and click the “PartyBoost” button to activate it.

JBL Flip 5 Buttons Combinations and Codes Explained

All Lights On

The “All Lights On” feature is where all the buttons, including the battery indicator, light up. This feature doesn’t do anything else, except light up all buttons.

To deactivate the “All Lights On” feature, hold the power button until all the lights go off.

Low-Frequency Mode

Most, if not all JBL Speakers come with a low-frequency mode. Bass has a sound wave of 15 Hz to 40 Hz, which often is called low-frequency mode. Basically, if you activate this mode, you will activate bass in your sound. And if you deactivate, you will remove the bass from the sound.

The low-frequency mode is always on, to turn it off you have to press and hold the Bluetooth and Volume Down (-) at the same time. Release the buttons once the power and Bluetooth buttons light up white.

To turn the low-frequency mode back on, press and hold the Bluetooth and Volume Down (-) buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. Once the power and Bluetooth buttons light up white, you can release the buttons.

Press and hold the Volume Down (-) and PartyBoost buttons at the same time. After 10 seconds, the speaker will tell you the Bluetooth and firmware version via audio.

Service/Lock Mode

If your speaker doesn’t turn off/on, and none of the buttons are working, most likely the speaker is in service mode.

In service mode, the speaker won’t turn ON unless connected to a power source, once connected to a charger the speaker will automatically turn off. The speaker also won’t turn on unless connected to a power source, once connected the speaker will automatically turn on.
